Bertone returns with new supercar

Italian design house Bertone has announced that it’s developing a new supercar. The mid-engined car features angular body shapes, boomerang side intakes that evoke Bertone’s Lancia Stratos Zero concept of 1970, and a low-slung front end that references classic Bertone-designed Lamborghinis, from the Miura to the Silhouette. The sketches released show LED lighting, contrasting colour body panels and exhaust tailpipes, indicating a combustion engine onboard.

Bertone’s return follows bankruptcy in 2014. The name was purchased in 2016 by Mauro and Jean-Franck Ricci, who run a technology consultancy called Akka. The first new project was the 2018 Smart Bertone, a radically uprated Smart Fortwo ED with 280hp, 2300Nm of torque and four-wheel drive. Akka specialises in car engineering and manufacturing concepts, and has worked with companies likes Aston Martin, Ford and VW.
