Giorgetto Giugiaro to revive 1974 Hyundai Pony Coupe Concept

Giorgetto Giugiaro to revive 1974 Hyundai Pony Coupe Concept

Giorgetto Giugiaro and his son Fabrizio are rebuilding the Hyundai Pony Coupe concept car that debuted at the 1974 Turin Show. The Pony was the Korean company’s first independent model and Giugiaro designed five prototypes, including a coupe. Its origami-like geometric lines were cutting edge at the time, and although the Pony Coupe never reached production, the saloon did, from 1975 to 1990. The Coupe influenced future Giugiaro creations such as the DeLorean DMC 12.

As the original concept car no longer exists, Hyundai has commissioned Giugiaro to recreate a new one, which will debut in spring 2023. Giugiaro commented: “I designed the Hyundai Pony when I was still a young designer at the start of my career. Now, I’m deeply honoured that Hyundai has asked me to rebuild it.”
