Milltek turns 40 - new R&D facility (UK) Milltek corp. opened (North America)

This year marks a major milestone for Milltek Sport, one of the best known and most highly regarded aftermarket exhaust manufactures, as it celebrates 40 years of business. And what better way to celebrate, than investing £2.5 million in a new UK R&D facility (above)?

Its new purpose-built Advanced Manufacturing Centre in Derby utilises the latest manufacturing machinery to not only increase production efficiency but also reduce energy consumption, which sounds like a win, win to us. Housed in a new 15,000 sq ft building that’s located just across from its existing HQ, the manufacturing centre features the latest five-axis twin robot laser, combo tube and sheet laser and multi-stack tube bender, to name just a few of the new machines in use. This new centre will work hand in hand with Milltek GmbH (its German R&D facility - located near the Nürburgring) and hopes to increase production capacity by as much as 35%. Having taken 18 months to construct, the plan is that the centre will play a significant role in enabling Milltek to meet global demand for its ever-popular product. Milltek GmbH was opened five years ago and allows for machinery located in Germany to share production data with equipment in the UK for fast prototyping of a product for a car not yet listed or LHD specific parts.

That’s not all, because expansion abroad is also a key part of Milltek’s growth plans - to increase its first-to-market products - the company recently launched Milltek Corp in Alcoa, Tennessee to increase its North American presence. Milltek's range now includes lots of American-specific cars and Milltek Corp will allow the brand to improve product demand in the US and also work more closely with American customers. With what promises to be a very exciting year ahead for the Derby-based company, we’re looking to celebrate with them by running a number of exclusive articles focused on the company, the enthusiastic team behind the name, some of their own personal cars and demonstrator vehicles, plus a whole load more technical content. They say life begins at 40 and you know what? They could be right…
