Pininfarina Battista recently claimed some fastest-accelerating titles

Every month, there seems to be some fresh electric supercar hype. The latest is the   Pininfarina Battista, which recently claimed some fastest-accelerating titles.

NEVER MIND THE NEVERA

Pininfarina is the design house. They are the coachbuilders responsible for some of the most iconic cars of the past century but more recently, subsidiary Automobili Pininfarina – a separate entity based in Munich, Germany – focused its efforts on building an electric hypercar. Named after Farina design house founder Battista (nicknamed Pinin), the electric hypercar debuted at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show; however, we have heard relatively little of the car since. What should pique your interest is it sourced all four of its electric motors from Croatian EV supercar manufacturer Rimac, whose Nevera was our cover star last month.

Recent reports are that the Battista has eclipsed the Nevera yet again. Three months ago, the Battista managed 0–100 km/h in 1,79 seconds, only just edging out the 1,85 second fi gure set by the Nevera at the Dubai Autodrome. And in recent runs at the NATRAX test facility in India, it smashed the quarter-mile in 8,55 seconds and the half-mile in 13,38 seconds, both of which Pininfarina believes make the Battista not just the fastestaccelerating electric car over those distances, but also the fastest-accelerating production car. Period.

The Battista’s four electric motors produce 1 417 kW and 2 340 N.m of torque, and it has a top speed (most likely limited) of 350 km/h. Pininfarina claims a driving range of 476 km thanks to a 120 kWh battery pack sourced from Rimac. It costs around R39 million and according to the company, no more than 150 examples will be built, ensuring exclusivity for prospective owners.

“These speed records and independent tests,” said CEO Paolo Dellach., “have validated our ambition to create a new generation of hyper and luxury car, leading with the Battista, whereby electric power delivers performance that is simply unachievable in the world of ICE powertrains.”
