Lamborghini’s all-new model is a Coupe SUV

A new ‘fourth model line’ will build on the sales success of the Urus, and it’ll be purely electric. By Georg Kacher.

PAST AND FUTURE

Instead of being a Urus derivative as originally planned, Lambo is preparing a battery-electric, four-seat, two-door EV which philosophically connects to the 1972 third-generation Espada. Except it’ll be quite a bit taller and more like an SUV in many ways. Tenuous link? Maybe, but Lambo knows where the money is.

DELAYED GENIUS

While the Revuelto and the Huracan replacement will use Lambo’s new ‘monofuselage’ (above), the new car’s all-electric DNA means it’ll take advantage of VW Group’s set of delayed SSP platforms. It will use the largest variant of the architecture – SSP6 – and will include steer- and brake-by-wire tech as standard.

MULTIPLE MODELS

Like the Huracan, it's understood that Lamborghini intends to offer different variants, with even pricier Performante and SV derivatives, as well as a possible Sterrato off-roader. As for the standard model, our intel suggests a rough mark-up of around £20,000 compared to a Urus.

EV ACCEPTANCE

Boss Stephan Winkelmann believes the brand and its customers are ready for EVs: ‘The team as a whole – 2000 people – has embraced it. The driving experience – brakes, suspension, power-to-weight ratio… it's going to be even more important than today.’ Fears about EVs will, he predicts, ‘dissolve into nothing’.

Maybe not the most radical new model, but it should help fill the coffers
