All new 2025 Kia EV9 GT to rival BMW iX M60 i20

The EV9 GT is set to arrive in 2025 as Kia’s most powerful model yet and will serve as a brand-building rival to the likes of the BMW iX M60.

The Korean firm’s seven-seater will go on sale in early 2024 in standard form with single- and twin-motor guises. It will be key to helping Kia expand its reach into new markets. EV9 product manager Gregor Krumböck said the EV9 GT will have “approximately the same difference” from the standard model as the EV6 GT does. That model offers 576bhp and 546lb ft from a twin-motor powertrain, a hefty 256bhp and 100lb ft increase. At launch, the dual-motor version of the EV9 will offer 378bhp, suggesting a GT version will exceed 600bhp.

However, the EV6 GT has received far more than a power upgrade. Kia’s performance division has also extensively reworked the chassis and settings to boost handling and performance.

While the EV9 GT will also gain chassis tweaks, Krumböck said: “They’ll be slightly different because the EV6 supports much more this sporty driving. The EV9 GT can still have this powerful driving, but not necessarily mimicking a super-sports car.”
