Review: Anglia, online, May 1-2 2021
As we’ve come to expect from Anglia, the May sale was a big one, with some 422 lots over two days ranging from bikes to automobilia, plus of course over 200 cars and an impressive sale rate just over 85% at the time of writing.
Headline results included the £155,000 bid for a 1962 Aston Martin Lagonda Rapide, alongside the hefty £56,500 hammer price of an E30 BMW M3, its Cecotto limited edition status helping the bidding along. Meanwhile, an XR2 of identical vintage powered to an £18,500 bid and a 1981 E21 BMW 323i was no doubt assisted by Top Gear-fuelled nostalgia for ‘Dad’s cars’ to make an impressive £14,000.
We’ve picked some of our personal highlights from the huge catalogue but you’ll find the full results at angliacarauctions.co.uk.
The Fiat Coupe has aged well and the 20V Turbo is the sought-after model. This one went for £2970 after premiums.
Star of the sale was this 1962 Aston Martin Lagonda Rapide in manual RHD spec which was hammered away at £155,000.
This 1962 Morris Traveller was ready to use and looked like great value at £7560. Proving that the E46 M3 is already on the way up, this 2003 SMG car made £15,660 with premium.
Few Silver Spirits are good enough to command nearly £20,000 but this 14,666- mile car cost its new owner £19,980. Humble Sierra 1.8 LXi had covered just 2780 miles from new and was bid up to £6000. It’s a confident man who sends an RS Turbo to auction with no reserve but the hammer dropped at £21,000 on this restored car. Lovely-looking Mercedes W108 250SE doubled its upper estimate to cost its new owner £8640.
This 58,000-mile Mk2 XR2 was hammered away for £18,750.
The Lancia Delta HF Turbo must be the ultimate left-field hot hatch. It smashed its £5000-£7000 estimate to sell for £10,880 with premium.
