Tried and tested - Skytag vehicle tracking device
Last month we had a look at installing the Skytag vehicle tracker, which according to Skytag is a job any relatively mechanically competent car owner should be able to do – the important thing is hiding its location, so that thieves are unaware that one is fitted and are unable to disable it. We also mentioned the different levels of service available to Skytag customers, from a basic £79.99/ year package, up to a Live Tracking package that costs £150/year. We opted for the Live Tracking package, which offers live tracking of the car via GPS.
Setting up the system was easy: once installed, we imply contacted kytag to activate the system which is one by setting up a one’ around where e car is stored, while the car is in that location. Once the car is moved out of that zone, Skytag immediately sends out an alert by text and by email. The live tracking, if opted for as part of the more expensive package, enables an owner to see exactly where the car is, the idea being that if your vehicle is stolen, live information can be passed on to the police to enable them to intercept the vehicle and prevent its theft.
Sure enough, when our ‘Skytagged’ vehicle was driven out of where it’s stored, there then followed emails and texts to inform us that the car had been moved and we were even able to follow its whereabouts live on a GPS link sent in an email.
We spoke to Guy Topsom from Skytag about the system and he explained they even offered a service for customers when they’re on holiday abroad, as long as they inform Skytag beforehand. Likewise, he told us of one customer who had multiple classic vehicles, all fitted with the Skytag wiring harness and who, depending on which vehicle he takes out, fits the tracker to said vehicle’s wiring harness.
