Vauxhall teases next Astra
Vauxhall has released the first images of its next-generation Astra, revealing some of the new hatchback’s design features. The abstract-looking images confirm the new model will come with headlights similar to those of the latest Mokka and Grandland models, as well as incorporating Vauxhall’s new Vizor grille design.
The Astra model designation has also been shown as spaced lettering that stretches across the centre of the tailgate.
The French-owned brand has also revealed images of the new family hatchback’s interior, with what Vauxhall calls a “Pure Panel” digital cockpit with “fully glazed” surfaces. While details are few and far between for now, it would seem that we will see more dependence on technology than has been seen in previous iterations of the Astra, with fewer physical buttons on the dashboard.
Vauxhall has not yet confirmed pricing for the new Astra, but the company has revealed the new car will be “electrified” for the first time. The company has also said the car will be available as a Sports Tourer estate, and the first cars will be arriving later this year. More details will be announced in the coming months, with the car fully revealed at the end of August. Early predictions are that the next-generation Astra will cost from £22,000 in diesel guise, a small increase on the outgoing model. Like other models in the Vauxhall line-up, it’s expected that the Astra will be offered in a choice of SE, SRi, Elite and Ultimate editions. Power will come from Stellantis’ 129bhp 1.5-litre turbodiesel engine, as seen in the latest C4, Mokka and upcoming Peugeot 308.
