Skoda reveals Fabia engine line-up and prices

The new Skoda Fabia will get a range of four petrol engines when it arrives early next year. Updates will ensure the units offer better efficiency and lower CO2 emissions than the outgoing model. Prices start at £14,905, just £25 more than the outgoing model.

The range kicks off with two 1.0-litre MPI engines, offering 64bhp and 79bhp, fitted with a five-speed manual gearbox. These gain an optimised crankshaft, with new pistons and piston rings to reduce friction. Water circulation around the engine has been improved, and the three-cylinder engines now operate on the Atkinson combustion cycle, reducing their compression ratio and fuel consumption.

Both 1.0-litre TSI direct injection petrol engines (with 94bhp and 109bhp) now use a higher injection pressure of 350 bar, and a new plasma coating replaces cast-iron cylinder liners for lower friction and better heat dissipation. These engines operate on the Miller combustion cycle and feature a variable turbine geometry. The more powerful version is upgraded with a six-speed manual gearbox, with a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission on the options list.

Fuel economy figures haven’t been released yet, but Skoda has revealed an optional sports suspension upgrade will be available. This will lower the Fabia’s ride height by 15mm, provide a firmer setup and appeal to drivers looking for ‘a more dynamic driving experience.’

Four specifications will be on offer from launch, with the entry-level S kicking off proceedings, followed by mid-range SE Comfort and Colour Edition models, and a top-of-the range SE L trim level. Prices start at £14,905 for the S, £16,795 for the SE Comfort, £17,495 for the Colour Edition and £18,980 for the SE L. The new Fabia is available to order now from Skoda dealers, with the first cars ready for delivery in January 2022.
