MG ZS EV leads the charge in UK

After the MG ZS EV which arrived in September, MG Motor UK celebrated its highest ever monthly sales in the UK, surpassing 5000 registrations that same month, and overall market share was up to 2.53% (an increase of 61.2% year-to-date) with a 5.5% share of the BEV market. Unlike Europe, MG Motor UK’s market share still depends to a significant extent on sales of petrol and PHEV vehicles (MG3, MG ZS, MG HS and MG HS Plug-in Hybrid) but the simultaneous launch of the facelifted MG ZS EV is a clear testament to the growing importance of the BEV section in the UK. Growth in the UK, as in Europe, has been bolstered by a rise in the number of MG dealer outlets; up by 40 in 2021 alone. Just one example is in the North West of England, where the large retail group Holdcroft has added MG to three of its 25 sites in the region.

Prices of the MG ZS EV variants for the UK market had yet to be revealed when we went to press; the updated MG ZS EV will be offered in a choice of two trim levels and two battery variants.

MG is introducing two new version names, starting with the new ZS EV SE and Trophy (in Europe, the names are Comfort and Luxury). Trophy will be best remembered from the MG Rover days, although in China it has been applied to various modern models such as the MG6. As with the European ZS EV, the 72kWh long range battery will offer a range of 273 miles compared with 163 miles for the existing model (based on WLTP measurements). A 51kWh battery with a 198-mile range will join the line up next year. Although the Marvel-R isn’t joining the range, MG Motor UK has hinted to us that 2022 promises to be a big year for MG in the UK so watch this space.
