Stay of execution Toyota proves the city car ain’t dead

Designed in Europe, for Europe, the new Toyota Aygo X is on sale in early 2022. UK prices expected to start at around £13.5k

On-trend looks

The production Aygo X is near identical to the Prologue concept, with flared arches and body cladding like a crossover. Colours are named after spices (Cardamom, Chilli, Ginger etc) with contrasting black.

Editions and additions

As well as a rolltop fabric roof option and full LED headlights, a Limited spec is available for the first six months of Aygo X sales, with orange trimmings, Cardamom green paint and bespoke black wheels.

What you want

All the stuff a driver could ever ask for is available, adding some real sophistication to the city car segment: adaptive cruise, keyless start, nav and a 300W JBL premium audio system are on the order list.

A simple choice

Manual or auto. Your only engine is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol. Toyota’s targeting up to 60mpg for the manual, 107g/km for the auto. As you’d expect, it’s not quick; a 62mph sprint is 15 seconds.
