All-New 2022 BMW 2 Series Active Tourer U06
BMW has unveiled a re-engineered 2 Series Active Tourer U06 designed for ICE and electrified powertrains with prices starting at £30,265.
BMW sold more than 430,000 first-generation 2 Series Active Tourer models, interestingly around 80 percent of those sales were to customers new to the brand. Off the back of those sales it will come as no surprise that an all-new 2 Series Active Tourer has now been revealed. The new model has been designed to run with a mixture of conventional combustion engines, hybrid or electrified drivetrains ensuring it will offer options for all types of buyer. The new model is larger than its predecessor – by 32mm in length, 24mm in width, and 21mm in height. The wheelbase is unchanged at 2,670mm, but its track widths have been increased by 25mm at the front and 26mm at the back.
Initially customers can choose from two petrol engines and one diesel, a new 1.5-litre three-cylinder unit comes in the 220i producing 156hp assisted by a 19hp electric motor for a combined output of 170hp and 206lb ft torque, it accelerates from 0-62mph in 8.1-seconds. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit powering the 223i develops 218hp (204hp plus 19hp) and 265lb ft – it sprints from 0-62mph in 7.0-seconds yet emits 137-149g/ km and achieves 42.8-47.1mpg. The 218d gets a redeveloped 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine producing 150hp and 265lb ft enabling it to reach 62mph in 8.8-seconds, while returning 53.3-58.9mpg with emissions of 125-138g/km. The seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission is standard. The range is set to expand from summer 2022 with the addition of two plug-in hybrid models equipped with fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology for a significantly extended electric range (230e xDrive and 225e xDrive).
A choice of Sport, Luxury and M Sport models arrive at debut, an updated chassis is said to have improved efficiency and agility across the board. Notably, the new model marks the debut of the BMW Operating System 8, but there is no iDrive controller in the centre console. A Curved Display appears in a compact-class BMW for the first time (up until now the system has been in only the iX and i4).
Two non-metallic and nine metallic paint finishes are available, including the new Sparkling Copper Grey metallic, 17-inch light-alloy wheels are fitted as standard to Sport and Luxury models, with additional 18- and 19-inch wheels as options. Inside things have been completely redesigned taking cues from the iX. An increase in head, shoulder and elbow room both front and back is combined with an increase in knee room for rear passengers. Newly-developed seats provide improved long-distance comfort and enhanced lateral support. There are five interior trim variants with options allowing owners to individualise the interior to their own tastes and requirements.
Produced at BMW Group Plant Leipzig, the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will be priced from £30,265 and is due for launch and first UK deliveries in March 2022.
