Refreshed 2022 BMW M135i xDrive F40
BMW has revealed a revised F40 M135i xDrive with a retuned chassis and tweaked soundtrack.
BMW has revealed a revised M135i xDrive F40 which it says is now better honed for the track. The four-cylinder hatchback boasts upgrades to its chassis, a retuned soundtrack to make the driving experience more engaging, and new colours. The refresh comes ahead of a full facelift expected in 2022 and ensures that the model can keep pace with its rivals. Power remains the same at 306hp with 332lb ft of torque, M Sport brakes and 18-inch wheels together with a limited-slip differential remain as standard.
The changes to the chassis include tweaks to the camber of the front wheels, which has been increased to better absorb lateral forces in the corners. A new hydromount is attached to the front suspension wishbones, while the mounts for the trailing and control arms at the rear have also been redesigned. Both the spring and damping systems have undergone a recalibration, the end result is said to offer a significant improvement in roll through corners, which has a further beneficial effect on steering feel. The note from the twin-tailpipe exhaust system has also been augmented, amplified in the cabin via the audio system’s speakers.
Perhaps the most obvious change though is on the exterior. A new selection of striking paint finishes have been introduced as part of BMW Individual. At the special request of customers the Leipzig plant can now paint your car in Sao Paulo Yellow non-metallic, Frozen Orange metallic or Frozen Pure Grey. Pricing for the new version of the M135i is yet to be confirmed for the UK market.
