BMW’s M performance division has announced the £111,905 iX M60 is set to arrive this summer, with the Tesla Model X firmly in its sights. The most powerful version of BMW’s dedicated all-electric SUV will storm from 0-62mph in under four seconds.

Jumping above the iX xDrive 50 in the model range, the new flagship will develop 611bhp and 811lb ft of torque from its twin electric motors, with power sent to all four wheels. Along with its raised top speed of 155mph, it can also manage up to 357 miles on a single charge, when being driven in a more sedate manner. That’s down on the 380 miles possible in the slower xDrive 50, however.

To ensure the hottest iX stands out, it’s fitted with upgrades including 22-inch alloy wheels, blue brake calipers with ‘M’ logos and a Titanium Bronze finish for exterior trim and badges. Its specification is also bolstered with soft close doors, Laserlight headlights, a Bowers and Wilkins sound system and ventilated front seats. Aerodynamic 22-inch alloy wheels finished in Titanium Bronze will also be available as an option.

The latest-generation infotainment setup is carried over, with the eighth generation of iDrive displayed on screens that flow across the dashboard, with no traditional binnacle. Features include a 5G data connection, augmented reality navigation and a voice assistant that can recognise a wider range of commands.

Set to be manufactured at BMW’s Dingolfing plant in Germany, the iX and its battery cells are made using sustainable electricity, with cobalt and lithium sourced from Australia and Morocco.
