2022 G70 Shooting Brake adds extra style to fledgling Genesis brand

Genesis has revealed a new estate version of its G70 executive saloon, dubbing the newcomer the G70 Shooting Brake. Designed to rival the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate and Volvo V60, the newcomer is said to have been designed specifically for European customers.

The G70 Shooting Brake is the same size as its saloon-bodied sibling, measuring just under 4.7 metres in length and 1.85 metres wide, without door mirrors. That makes it almost exactly the same size as a BMW 3 Series Touring, but the boot is expected to be smaller. Genesis hasn’t put an exact figure on it, but it says the estate’s luggage bay is 40% bigger than that of the G70 saloon. In the US, that car has a mere 297 litres of carrying capacity, so the Shooting Brake could be looking at around 415 litres of load space. By comparison, the BMW has a 500- litre boot, while the Volvo V60 has a 529-litre space in the back. Around the world, the G70 is offered with a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine, as well as 2.0-litre four-cylinder and 3.3-litre V6 petrol engines. Genesis hasn’t confirmed which motors will power cars destined for the UK, but it seems likely that the two four-cylinder engines will find their way onto our roads. Prices are also yet to be confirmed, but we expect a starting price somewhere in the region of £35,000.

“We are delighted to reveal this bespoke product – tailored for our European customers – so soon after revealing news of our arrival into the region,” said Dominique Boesch, Managing Director of Genesis Motor Europe. “The G70 Shooting Brake marries luxury and European automotive heritage with our design philosophy of Athletic Elegance. Our fifth car in Europe, the Shooting Brake will stand apart through its unique design; it is a clear statement of our commitment to the region.”
