New baby EV will replace Nissan Micra

Nissan has confirmed it’s set to launch an all-electric supermini in Europe. The new model will replace the Micra as the manufacturer’s entry-level vehicle and play a key role in delivering Nissan’s ‘Ambition 2030’ strategy to shift towards electrified models.

The new electric small car will be related to the Renault 5 that’s expected to launch in 2024, sitting on the same CMFBEV platform shared between the Nissan- Renault-Mitsubishi Alliance. Later this year, Nissan is launching the all-electric Nissan Ariya crossover, while the Qashqai and X-Trail SUVs will receive e-Power hybrid range-extending technology.

“This all-new model will be designed by Nissan and engineered and manufactured by Renault using our new common platform, maximising the use of our Alliance assets while maintaining its Nissan-ness,” said Nissan Chief Operating Officer Ashwani Gupta.

“This is a great example of the Alliance’s ‘smart differentiation’ approach. Succeeding our iconic Micra, I am sure this new model will provide further excitement to our customers in Europe.” The CMF-BEV platform is expected to offer a range of up to 250 miles, while also being around a third cheaper to produce than the underpinnings of the current Renault Zoe. The Micra replacement is planned to be manufactured in Renault’s ElectriCity centre that brings together the sites of Douai, Maubeuge, and Ruitz together in Northern France.
