Toyota and Lexus launch ‘Game-Changing’ 10-year warranty
Toyota and Lexus have launched a radical new ‘Relax’ vehicle warranty, offering up to 10 years and 100,000 miles of no-cost cover that’s set to shake-up the industry. It applies not just to privately owned petrol and diesel cars, but also includes hybrids, electric and hydrogen models, along with vans and commercial vehicles, and also taxis.
Relax will automatically apply to all new Toyota or Lexus models sold from 1st June 2021, but used car buyers and owners can also benefit. Relax is ‘service activated’ – each time a Toyota or Lexus younger than 10 years old or 100,000 miles (whichever is sooner) is serviced at an official Toyota or Lexus service centre, a year’s manufacturers warranty is added to it. Relax is “game-changing”, according to Rob Giles from Toyota GB.
For owners of models still in their warranty period, Relax will apply once its term expires. To extend the Relax warranty, a minor or major service needs to be undertaken annually. Toyota’s price promise will also remain in place, which sees Toyota service centres able to match the servicing quotes of independent garages within the local area.
Prior to Relax, Toyota offered a five-year warranty, while Lexus offered just three years of standard cover. Kia currently offers seven years and up to 100,000 miles of protection, while Hyundai and Renault offer five years. Premium rivals to Lexus such as Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz typically offer a three-year warranty.
