Downtime Mega Weekend — Queen’s Birthday
Queen’s Birthday weekend is always an event weekend in the import scene and this year is no different; Hampton Downs is set to come alive on both Saturday and Sunday, with events from the Downtime Entertainment stable.
On Saturday, fans of the triple diamond will descend on the venue for Mitsubishi Owners Day, which will feature the always popular Andrew Simms Mitsubishi parade lap. The world record still stands at 280 Evolution models on track at one time. The New Zealand number has increased year on year and, if all those cars finally make it out of garages and up the island, a strong attempt on the record will be made. Either way, there’s always an abundance of smiles with the plentiful cruising laps and popular ‘heli’ contest featuring high-speed 4WD doughnuts.
On Sunday is the annual ClubFest — this is a big one. With numbers at more than 700 at the last event, this is where clubs come to be loud and proud. It is quite simply ‘by clubs for clubs’ in a simple tribute to the promoter’s roots. Featuring plenty of crowd interaction and banter, lap after lap of cruising, and the ever-popular battle for the titles of King and Queen of ClubFest, this is the event you want to be at for relaxed and friendly vibes.
