Facelift and mild-hybrid diesel for 2023 BMW X7 G07

BMW has given its flagship X7 SUV a facelift, ushering in a new split-headlight design, and introducing new technology and BMW’s latest infotainment package. Available to order now, the X7 also gets a revised engine line-up and costs from £80,980 in 2023 BMW xDrive40d Excellence G07 guise. The new split-headlights mark a departure for the manufacturer, which look set to help differentiate the largest and most expensive BMWs from the rest of the model range – they also appear on the i7 luxury saloon also revealed this month. The upper LED portion houses the daytime running lights, while a larger and more deeply recessed lower section contains the headlights.

BMW has also reworked the silver air ducts flanking the lower grille, along with redesigning the rear lights and adding an ‘Iconic Glow’ illuminated front grille that’s standard for top versions. The X7’s alloy wheels have been redesigned for 2022, and 23-inch wheels are optional for the first time on a BMW model. The biggest interior change is the arrival of the ‘Curved Display’ infotainment screen, first seen in the BMW iX.

This replaces the traditional instrument binnacle with a 12.3-inch instrument panel, flowing into a 14.9-inch infotainment screen perched above the dashboard and running iDrive 8 software. The X7 can be specified as a full seven-seater, or in a VIP layout, with two central passenger seats in place of a typical bench seat. A Harman Kardon sound system is standard, along with heated front seats, a panoramic glass roof and four-zone climate control.

The 2023 BMW X7 G07 also receives the latest mild-hybrid version of the B57 3.0-litre straight-six diesel engine. This 48-volt setup uses a starter-generator located in the front of the eight-speed automatic gearbox, adding up to 11bhp and 15lb ft of torque at the crankshaft, for power outputs of 335bhp and 531lb ft of torque. Fuel-efficiency is up to 37.2mpg with CO2 emissions from 200g/km. The Steptronic Sport transmission has been updated for faster shifts, and a new ‘Sprint’ function, where pulling on the left-hand paddle for one second puts the car into the lowest usable gear and sportiest settings, which may be useful if you need to overtake slower traffic. The new X7 is offered in a choice of two trim levels in diesel guise – Excellence and M Sport. Available to order now, the first examples will reach showrooms later in the year.
