Peugeot offers 3D Printed Accessories

Peugeot is breathing new life into its car accessories range, thanks to 3D printing technology. Now available in the Peugeot Lifestyle online store, the range kicks off for the 308 with add-ons include a sunglasses holder, phone, card and drinks holder.

They’ve been 3D printed using HP Multi Jet Fusion technology, and have been designed to be light, solid, pleasant to touch and easy to use. Peugeot decided on the range after detailed analysis of how owners use storage in the car. When it was found that traditional materials didn’t meet the required specifications, the Colours and Materials team came up with an innovative alternative.

The team settled on 3D printing, stating that in ‘an increasingly demanding and unpredictable market; all kinds of customised objects and accessories can be produced without needing expensive moulds and manufacturing tools.’ Within a few months, the team has already jointly developed a new polymer that’s flexible, fast to produce and highly accurate when printed. This means shorter lead times and reduced stock storage thanks to on demand production.
