Mustangs: ‘Driving’ the special relationship

Mustangs have proved to be the most popular of US muscle cars with UK thrill-seekers, according to new data.

The research was conducted by leading driving experience provider DrivingExperience.com, which allows petrolheads to get behind the wheel of a range of American V8s. Mustangs are the most popular American muscle car for Brits to drive, with the iconic pony car making up a third of all the company’s muscle car bookings – despite there being a wide range of other American vehicles available, including Corvettes, Camaros, Torinos, Dodge Chargers and KITT and Smokey and the Bandit Trans Ams. Indeed, the company’s Ultimate Mustang Experience with Hot Lap, which lets petrolheads drive three awesome V8-powered Mustangs – such as a 1965 Shelby Mustang GT350, a 2005 Ford Mustang GT500 and an original 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500 – accounts for a third of all bookings.

Alex MacGregor from DrivingExperience.com said: “Mustangs are cemented in modern motoring culture, and their popularity is clearly reflected by car lovers who want to experience for themselves the awesome power behind the wheel of a V8. “It’s no surprise really, as Mustangs have been a prominent feature in American culture, often being the star of the silver screen. This includes being driven by some of the country’s top stars like Steve McQueen in the 1968 thriller, Bullitt, through to more recent action in Transformers.” Even the second most popular muscle car package, the Triple American Muscle Blast with High Speed Passenger Ride, accounts for nearly a quarter of bookings, with Mustangs featuring prominently. Alex said: “The desire to get in the driver’s seat of a cult classic like the Ford Mustang and let loose on the track is extremely popular with Brits who want to feel the power these American cars have to offer.”
