SAIC sales up again
We have covered the dominance of SAIC in terms of Chinese car sales many times before, including the fact that income makes the company rank high on the Fortune 500 international business scale. Whilst many cars, under various joint ventures with VW and GM, are sold in vast numbers on SAIC’s home market, it sees the MG brand as its export champion, especially in Europe.
The MG4 is described by SAIC as its MG "Global Car" and is initially destined for the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and other countries, with plans in the spring of 2023 to add Australia and New Zealand, the Middle East, Mexico, South America and other regions; SAIC’s ambition is for a global sales target of 150 thousand in 2023. Meanwhile on 13th July, as SAIC built its millionth MG (a limited edition ZS) the company claimed that the new MSP platform – dubbed ‘Nebula’ in some markets – will eventually form the basis of no less than sixteen new models.
SAIC is hoping that MG4 will sell more than 100,000 vehicles in the European market this year. SAIC Motor sold 381,000 vehicles overseas in the first half of 2022, up 47.7 percent from the same period last year, according to official statistics. One of the company’s goals is to sell 800,000 vehicles overseas this year, moving eventually towards a round million. Let nobody suggest that SAIC lacks ambition!
MG China has now built their one millionth SAIC MG for Export; the car – part of a special limited edition model for local sales – was built at the Zhengzhou Plant No. 2 on 13th July 2022
