BMW returns to endurance racing

As part of the celebration of 50 years of BMW M, the Bavarian brand has lifted the wraps off its M Hybrid V8. With a revamp in the rules for endurance racing, we’re hoping to see the firm return to the Le Mans series in 2023.

The new racecar has all the hallmarks we expect from a new BMW, with a wide kidney grille and even the famous Hoffmeister kink. Wrapping everything up is the BMW M colour scheme on a white body.

It’s all powered by a twin-turbocharged 4,0-litre V8 engine that produces 477 kW and 650 N.m of torque.

The 2023 racing season will see a number of manufacturers return to the top tier of endurance racing – including Peugeot and Ferrari – which should make for competitive fields. BMW famously took its only victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1999 with the V12 LMR.
