Great Wall to return to the UK Market

Chinese maker Great Wall is set to make a comeback in the UK bringing its all-electric GWM ORA Cat model in, as unveiled at the Munich Motor Show.

Some may remember the Great Wall Steed pick-up truck that was imported into the UK between 2013 and 2016, as a budget alternative to established players like the Mitsubishi L200 and Nissan Navara. Now the Chinese vehicle manufacturer is looking to carve out an electric niche with its all-electric Cat hatchback.

Aimed at delivering pure electric driving fun with a retro-futuristic style and lots of quirky styling traits, the show car has a 63kWh battery pack with 168bhp electric motor, and can deliver a driving range of up to 250 miles. The front-wheel drive car measures just over four metres in length, is 1.8 metres wide and almost 1.6 metres tall. It can complete the 0-62mph dash in 8.5 seconds and has a top speed of 99mph. There are likely to be models with more modestly sized battery packs, with an associated reduction in range.

Inside there is a 20.5-inch dual display, with the Cat featuring a wealth of high-end safety kit in its armoury, including 12 ultrasonic radars, four cameras for a 360-degree surround view, a high-strength steel body, six airbags, face recognition, plus a 4G entertainment system.

The first country to get the new GWM ORA Cat is Germany, with deliveries commencing in the second half of next year, with other European markets set to follow after that, including importation into the UK.
