Electric Mobility on Two Wheels

Under the umbrella of electric mobility BMW Group also presented three additional concepts for sustainable mobility on two wheels at the IAA Mobility event. The BMW i Vision AMBY is the first high-speed pedelec (pedal electric cycle). At first glance it resembles an e-bike, but it offers more. The electric drive system comprises three speed stages for different road types; up to 25 km/h (15mph) for use on cycle paths, 45 km/h (28mph) on inner-city roads and up to a maximum speed of 60 km/h (37mph) for out-oftown road use.

Secondly comes the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY, it has a similar approach, combining the benefits of a motorcycle with those of a bicycle. Its employs geofencing technology linked to a smartphone app to limit its speed in appropriate areas, it allows the rider to travel on roads (up to 37mph) as well as on bicycle paths (up to 15mph). Unlike the BMW i Vision AMBY, the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY accelerates using a throttle grip and has typical motorcycle footrests instead of pedals. This one is groundbreaking in that a legal framework for such vehicles – with 'modular speeds' – does not yet exist, but BMW hopes that showcasing ideas like this will stimulate new legislation.

The third two-wheeled concept the BMW Motorrad Concept CE 02. This is neither a motorcycle nor a scooter, but a completely new idea – an easily accessible, electric two-wheeler for those aged 16 and above who want to be mobile and independent.
