Another new look for 2022 Mazda CX-5

The Mazda CX-5 has been given a further set of design and engineering upgrades, and is set to arrive in showrooms from early next year. It’s another boost for the popular model, which makes up 21 per cent of Mazda’s European annual sales. Prices remain the same as before, with the diesel editions starting at £29,310.

The bodyshell, suspension and seats have been tweaked to improve ride comfort and reduce fatigue. Road noise has been ‘greatly reduced’ according to the Japanese manufacturer, particularly when driving over rough surfaces. Visual changes include a new nose, with a ‘more three-dimensional grille’ and Mazda’s signature wing design of chrome trim along its bottom edge. Both the front and rear lights have also been altered, and there’s a new paint colour called Zircon Sand.

Other interior upgrades include the arrival of Mazda Intelligent Drive select (Mi-Drive), which lets the driver select different drive modes with a single switch. This includes an Off-Road setting, but only on versions equipped with i-Activ all-wheel-drive.

There’s also a wireless smartphone charging tray in the centre console for added convenience. In the boot, a two-piece reversible floor has been positioned at the same height as the sill to make loading easier. The i-Activsense suite of safety technology now includes Cruising and Traffic Support (CTS), which can assist with acceleration, braking and steering while stuck in heavy traffic, helping to reduce driver fatigue. Mazda’s Adaptive LED headlights have also come in for some scrutiny, with improvements introduced to make their light distribution more finely controlled.
