2022 Volkswagen Tiguan allspace updated

Volkswagen has updated its seven-seat Tiguan Allspace, bringing it in line with the short-wheelbase Tiguan already refreshed. The Allspace is now more stylish and gains some of the latest technology available within the group. The stretched Tiguan has proved popular for the marque, with around 1.5 million sold globally since its launch in 2017. On sale from later this month, the Tiguan Allspace is expected to cost from around £33,000.

Its nose has been fitted with VW’s latest grille and badges, including an illuminated light strip to help the Allspace stand out against rivals like the Kia Sorento and upcoming Nissan X-Trail. Its headlights have also been replaced and gain optional IQ Light LED matrix technology that can adjust to suit the prevailing conditions. Interior upgrades usher in a new infotainment system running MIB3 software, with an eight or 9.2-inch display, depending on the trim level. Upholstery and trim has also been given a spruce up, and the climate control system is now operated by touch-sensitive sliders, as seen in the latest Golf. VW has also teamed up with Harman Kardon to provide a range-topping audio system. IQ Drive Travel Assist semi-autonomous driving functionality also arrives, that can keep the car in its lane, brake and accelerate at motorway speeds, with minimal intervention from the driver.

Power is provided by 2.0-litre TDI diesel engines, with either 148bhp or 197bhp. The lower-powered version is front-wheel drive, while the range-topper gets 4MOTION four-wheel drive as standard, which can be added as an option to the 148bhp model. With 4MOTION fitted, the Tiguan Allspace can tow up to 2,500kg and Trailer Assist helps the driver manoeuvre a trailer or caravan more easily.

Trim levels start with the entry-level Life grade, with a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel and a powered tailgate. Elegance adds 19-inch alloy wheels and ambient interior lighting, while R-Line gives the interior and exterior a sporty makeover.
