New MG images leaked
Images from the patent filing for MG’s new Cyberster two-seater roadster have been leaked, with the newcomer expected on sale by 2024 as a ‘halo’ model in the company’s electric car line-up.
Originally previewed last year as concept coupe, the Cyberster’s styling has since been developed into the two-seater convertible shown here – making it an allelectric rival to the conventionally-powered Mazda MX-5.
The original Cyberster concept was said to be based on a bespoke EV platform offering a range of up to 497 miles and a 0-62mph time of less than three seconds. MG’s parent company, SAIC, has yet to confirm whether the production version is likely to match those figures.
In a previous press interview, MG’s UK commercial director, Guy Pigounakis, stated that MG’s global volume means it could “afford to invest in sports cars and take a longer-term view on when there will be a return on investment,” adding that having a sports car “will bring us massive PR and marketing benefits”.
