By being based on a 1966 DB6 but converted in the Nineties, this modern interpretation of a DBR2 is as close to the real thing as a re-creation can get. We look at the car’s background before experiencing the formidable machine for ourselves.

1966 Ferrari 330GTC

Take a rookie concours entrant, an obsessively restored Ferrari, a curious Octane editor and set them loose at Salon Prive. James Elliott reveals all.

Editor's comment
I'm more used to chasing rally cars through the wilder parts of the world, so jumped at the chance to photograph exotica on the Salon Prive Tour, keeping the Ferrari 330GTC in my viewfinder as it made its way through the Cotswolds with Octane editor James Elliott at the wheel.' Porsche 911 S 127 corners of the 1966 Freiburg to Schauinsland hill climb

A 911, clearly being driven with commitment, tackles one of the 127 corners of the Freiburg to Schauinsland hill climb. But this isn’t just any one of the many 911s that contested the Schauinsland climb until competitive events stopped after 1972. The driver is the Swabian, Eberhard Mahle, and in this 1966 photograph he’s well on the way to winning the European GT Hill Climb Championship and also the 911’s first international triumph. The irony is that if Huschke von Hanstein had prevailed, Eberhard wouldn’t have had a 911 to compete in.

Tuned Joel Russell’s 6.2-litre 440rwhp 1966 Chevrolet Nova

As far as ’1966-1967 Novas go, we’ve recently seen these cars move up the ranks in the muscle car food chain, and this ’66 here, owned by Joel Russell of Longwood, Florida, tops in style and quality. It comes as no surprise, though, as this one was constructed by the talented fellas at Chassis Crafters in Daytona Beach, Florida. Ed Nash and Steve Ward have been wrenchin’ and buildin’ badass vintage muscle cars for quite a while and know what’s what.
